“I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.”

Pupils who fall behind most commonly have an apathetic approach to their learning. At the route of this problem is lack of confidence or belief in either their potential or their opportunities. This leads to what Carol Dweck refers to as a ‘fixed mindset’. Where their apathy reinforces their lack of confidence. Coaching is all about providing individualised and bespoke support for those pupils to reverse that cycle and develop ‘Growth Mindsets’.

This also applies to students who may not be overtly falling behind and not displaying significantly inhibited progress but are still not fullfilling their full potential and ‘coasting under the radar’.

William Butler Yeats famously once said; ‘Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a flame’. Coaching is all about helping that young person find that pilot light that resides deep inside them and turning the gas up!

“The question is not how intelligent and creative are you ? ….but how are you intelligent, how are you creative ?”
